Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad Shaheed

Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad, son of Sahibzada Mirza Majeed Ahmad and Sahibzadi Qudsia Begum, was born on 21 January 1962. He was the paternal grandson of Hazrat Mirza Bashir Ahmad M.A. (ra), and the great-grandson of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (as). He was the father-in-law of Syed Taalay Ahmad. 

Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad received his primary education from Fazl-e-Umar Junior Model School, Rabwah, Pakistan. He passed his matriculation exam from the Abbottabad Public School, in 1978. He completed his FSc Pre-Engineering studies in 1980 and attained the first position in the Peshawar Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. During the Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya Ijtema, on 7 November 1980, Hazrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad (rh), Khalifatul Masih III, awarded him the gold medal for this achievement. Moreover, the governor of Peshawar also awarded him the gold medal for this achievement. 

He had a great interest in sports, such as cricket and swimming. He also represented his school in the National Cadet Course. He also loved cycling, and once travelled to Abbottabad from Lahore on his bicycle.

In 1981, Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad got admission to the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in the subject of Electrical Engineering. He received a degree of Bachelors of Engineering in 1986 and stood first. He then went to America for higher education, and initially joined George Washington University and later George Mason University. On 24 September 1983, while he was in the second year of his University, he wrote a letter to Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rh), Khalifatul Masih IV, and presented himself as a life devotee, which was accepted by Huzoor (rh) on 16 October 1983. After completing his M.S. degree in Computer Science from America, Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad came to Rabwah on 7 November 1989 upon the instruction of the Markaz where he was given the charge of the Computer Section of the Jamaat. 

Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rh), Khalifatul Masih IV, also formed a committee for the computerisation of the Jamaat institutions and Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad was appointed its Secretary. 

Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad also served in Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya Pakistan as the Mohtamim Tajnid from 1990 to 1991, and as the Mohtamim Maal from 1991 to 1994. He was also a member of the Ishaat Committee of Majlis Khuddam-ul-Ahmadiyya Pakistan from 1 November 1990 to 31 October 1994. In 1994-95, he served as the Mohtamim Muqami Rabwah as well.

In August 1993, when Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Shaheed attended Jalsa Salana UK as the representative of Tahrik-e-Jadid, Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rh), Khalifatul Masih IV, instructed him to establish an association of Ahmadi computer scientists and engineers. Thus, upon his return to Pakistan, he started working on this and then proposed a committee and the constitution for the ‘Association of the Ahmadi Computer Professionals’ to Huzoor (rh), which was approved on 6 April 1996. Huzoor (rh) appointed Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad as the patron of this association.  

From 24 March 1997 to 14 April 1999, he served as the Secretary Waqf-e-Nau Rabwah as well, and established the Language Institute for Waqifeen-e-Nau in Rabwah, on 11 March 1998.

On 14 April 1999, Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad Saheed was martyred and became the first martyr from the family of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the Promised Messiah (as). The details of the incident were narrated in the Friday Sermons of 16 and 23 April 1999, delivered by Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad (rh), Khalifatul Masih IV.

During the Friday Sermon of 16 April 1999, Huzoor (rh) said:

“O martyr! You shall always remain alive, and one day we shall all meet you. Long Live! Long live, Ghulam Qadir Shaheed!”

Then, during his Friday Sermon of 23 April 1999, Huzoor (rh) said:

“On 25 November 1904, the Promised Messiah (as) received a revelation: ‘Ghulam Qadir came and the house became filled with light and blessing. Allah sent him back to me.’ [Tadhkirah (English), p. 713]”

Huzoor (rh) stated that this revelation had been fulfilled in the person of Sahibzada Mirza Ghulam Qadir Ahmad Shaheed.
