谷爱凌在自由式滑雪女子U型场地技巧决赛中夺得她的冬奥第二枚金牌。

年仅19岁，谷爱凌就有着十分丰富的生活体验。在她的人生中，除了自由式滑雪，还有各种各样她所热爱的事情：健身、马术、钢琴、阅读、唱歌、跑步等等。

必不可少的还有她的学业，她在17岁时就以仅低于满分20分的优异成绩考入了自己的理想院校——斯坦福大学。

Free skiing, I mean that's an extreme sport

自由滑雪是一项极限运动

Can you tell us a bit what it is

你能给我们简单介绍一下这项运动吗

because I think not everyone around the globe

因为我认为不是每个人

really knows what that discipline really is

都真正地了解这项运动

So free skiing is you're on skis

自由滑雪是你站在滑雪板上

and the skis look a little bit different from

这种滑雪板看起来和竞速滑雪板

race skis or your typical rental skis because they are twin tips

或典型的租赁滑雪板有些不同因为它们是双头的

So the front goes up and the back also goes up

前面是向上的后面也是向上的

So that allows you to ski switch backwards

and you'll need to ski backwards

你需要向后滑

because the whole discipline surrounds

it's pretty much like gymnastics on skis

you're doing flips you're doing spins

There's a half pipe which is shaped like this

and you jump out and back in

And then theres another discipline called slopestyles

which is jumps and rails

And then finally, the last discipline is called big air

And in terms of skiing

what makes it different from anything else is that it is very expressive

It's very creative in terms of gymnastics rights

it's beautiful it's so difficulty but at the same times

there are set difficulties for different tricks

whereas in skiing there is no score based on only difficulty

而在滑雪中打分不仅仅是基于难度

is scored on difficulty amplitude executions variety and style

So if you do it differently than anybody elses

所以如果你做的和别人不一样

it'll score higher even if you're doing the same trick

即使你做的是同样的技巧它的分数也会更高

and every body will do that trick differently

同一个技巧 每个人都会做得不一样

And so in that way it makes it really interesting

because it allows for a lot of freedom

and creativity and self-expressions

and it allows you to kind of personalize your own skiing

I always like to say that if everybody was wearing black

and everybody was doing the same trick

and I was watching from a far distances

I would be able to tell who is who

because you can really show your own style and influence into skiing

So that's what I love so much about it

You achieved your first World Cup victory in ltaly in 2019

when you were only 15

What has happened since then

Wow, a lot has happened since then

I would say I think what's really fun is

because things have happened so fast

I definitely still have the kind of underdog mentality in the sense that

I now have enough confidence to enter any competition

and have the intention to win

but also not really the age or

or the time experience to really expect its

So what that means is I feel like

it's created a really healthy mind set for me competitively

I have won X Games I've won world championships

I've made history as

the first person of Chinese descent to ever win X-Games

I'm the first female rookie to win ski halfpipe

One of my biggest goals in skiing

has always been to inspire young girls

especially young Asian American girls or

young girls who don't really see representation in our sport yet

And so that is really exciting to me

because I've always had that as a goal

But being able to see those records being broken

and seemy self i taking those steps towards it is

kind of a mind bending moment for men

So it's happened really fast

but I'm really grateful for all the people who've been around me

Sometimes you feel like as a young person you feel like Oh

that are important and impactful to the world

but really i think it's important to be a young person and to show that

age doesn't dictate capability

and that experience teaches more than anything else

And so yeah l think that is my biggest goal

and it's something that I wish I had more of growing up

But also I'm really grateful

because I grew up in a very healthy and supportive environment

and who served as the role models that I didn't really see on TV

So I wanted to be kind of the one

to introduce skiing to people to show people the joy of it

And so that when people think of free skiing

they don't think of a older white man

They think of a young worldly biracial girl

who is bubbly and likes to do bunch of different things

and has this genuine passion for the sports

And that was probably my biggest goal

And now you know looking I China it absolutely has paid off

Before there was nobody at the ski resorts

I knew every body who freeskied in China

because there were only a handful of them

There were probably 20 or 30 people in the whole country

who knew about it and who were really cdoing the sport

And now you know I could never count

I show up to a resort and there ares just lines everywhere

and people are with their families and their friends

and everyones having a great times

And so its really exploding

so I'm really glad to have even made a small impact in that

You often say that your Asian American background

has shaped your characters

Could you describe that a bit what it really taught you

I think that growing up between two different cultures

helped me a lot with diversity and with l understanding and learning

in the sense that i was very aware of

the similarities and differences of culture from a very young age

So by the age of three I was fully bilingual

and I was noticing the little differences in the kinds of foods

but also in the way that people interacted overdinner

or hot water versus cold water the age-old debate

And so growing up in that environment, I think

has allowed me to then become more receptive of

even more cultures as I grow olders

So now coming to Europe more loften or traveling to different cities

with kind of different traditions in their own geographical locations

It has made me more receptive to that

and made me appreciate it more I think

it's something that has allowed me to accept differences more easily

and something that has allowed me to celebrate

cross-cultural friendship more easily

And so those are both things that I continue to try to promote

What does empowering women mean to you

I grew up in an all girls K-8 school

and I loved my experience there so much

When I started free skiing I was the only girl on my team

And it was such an incredibly harsh culture shock and dichotomy

when from Monday through Friday I would be with all girls

And on Saturday and Sunday

when I went skiing I would be the only girl

And so in that sense

I became hyperaware of my gender and my expression

because I felt like in the beginning

all of a sudden every body around me was male

and when I looked at the great idols of skiing

all of them are male, too, so kind of feeling,

should I be ashamed of my femininity,

should I try to be more like the boys

Should I dress like them Should I talk like them

And would that make me more accepted

Would that make me better at skiing

You know, these kind of questions went through my mind at a very young age

and I'm really grateful that I had that superstrong and empowering

educational environment during the weekdayS

because I think that it could have been

因为我认为如果我没有这种基础性的支持

pretty detrimental to my kind lof esteem as a female

可能会对我作为一个女性的自尊心

if I had nt had that foundational support but I did

And so instead of kind of crushing it down

I learned to to celebrate differences

and to kind of communicate and make friends

and use skiing as a way to create bonds and to create friendship

And so that was a big learning opportunity for me

and it was also away for me to kind of embrace being a woman

and to embrace the innate power that we have as individuals

And so it has always been really important to me

In seventh grade l gave my first speech on women in sports

It later got used as a voice over for an international brand

for their International Womens Day commercial

And since then, you know in high school

I've led workshops for women in sports

I've led discussions and workshops about female athletes

and their portrayal in the media

and how that affects people's perception of female athletes

i think that these are all really important questions

that now more than every we should be asking ourselves

and questions about inclusion and diversity

should always be involved in that conversation as well

We know that social media is really influencing and forming

the opinions of many people

Where do you see the benefit of social media

Social media is a double-edged swords right

Because I think that especially in my generations

every body has social media

Everybody uses it as their primary source of information

It's the way that you consciously or subconsciously

view what is trendy or what is cool

or how to live your life or kind of what goals to set

And so that last piece

I thinks can be extremely beautiful and extremely inspiring

or it can be extremely detrimental

也可以是非常有害的

depending on which side you end upon

And so in terms of i the extremely beautiful side

it shows you what spossibles right

Like through skiing

a lot of so many people had never heard of skiing before

and may be they are scrolling on their discover page or whatever

And then they see a video of me skiing

and belike wow this looks greats

This looks fun this looks cool I want to try this Boom

May be that changed their life

It would have changed mine for sure

And so I think that there's that side

所以我认为有这样的一面

or they see someone doing something

或者她/他们看到有人在做

who they didn't think was possible and suddenly they feel inspired

她/他们认为不可能的事突然她/他们受到了鼓舞

and they think if she can do it may be I can try it too

她/他们想如果她能做到也许我也可以试试

Or may be I can enjoy that too

或者也许我也能享受这种乐趣

She looks likes hes having fun

她看起来很开心

Why don't I give it a shot Right

That's the best thing life is all about joy Right

So they can find all these different ways

to find joy through social media

It expands your perspective land it shows you what's possible

On the other hand there's the toxicy hurtful beauty standards

that can impact young women and men everywhere

by seeing unrealistic beauty expectations

or kind of life styles and unrealistic portrayals of joy

that make them think may be if I looked a certain way

or had a different amount of money or lived in a different place

or had a different job or were born into a different setting

than may be I would be happy

But I think what social media can really obscure are

the beautiful imperfections of reality

So it's it's a double-edged sword

And so in that sense

I always try to make my social media as authentic as possible

Every few months I'll do like a question and answer thing

to kind of show the more real sides of myself

because on one hand I'm not going to post

And that's it or likes

Today I fell and it hurt and I didn't feel too great

Like I'm probably not going to post that

but I do want to kind of show that occasionally

And so I do want to make an effort to converse with people

and really says you know I'm not perfect all the time

And that's what makes everything funs

because if you were perfect all the time

then you would adapt to that and that would be your normal

And then you wouldn't feel perfect any more

And so in that sense you got to have both sides

and social media is a great way to spread information about both

I couldn't agree more but there is this other parts

you know when you are criticized how do you work on this

You knows when you when you have critical feedback

When I first started getting hate, I used to search for it

think that it's so much casier to hold onto negativity than positivity

我认为坚持消极比坚持积极要容易得多

And Ireally love psychology

我真的很喜欢心理学

So I've read a lot of stuff about this

所以我读了很多相关的内容

and how kind of as animals the animal brain goes likes

以及作为动物动物的大脑会说：

Oh my god there's danger

以及作为动物动物的大脑会说：

It's more beneficial to remember where the danger is

记住危险在哪里对自己更有利

because you want to l avoid being hunted

因为你想避免被猎杀

If you can remember where the

如果你能记住在森林里

Super sweet tasting berries were hidden in the forest

哪里藏有超级甜的浆果

That's great! Bonus points

那很好是加分项

but like you'd rather remember where the predators cave is

但你宁愿记住捕食者的洞穴在哪里

and so it's a lot easier to remember the negative parts

所以记住负面的东西要容易得多

And that really is embedded into you

这种本能已经嵌入到你身上了

because you could have 1000 really positive messages

因为你可能有1000个积极的评论

and may be ten negative comments

也许有10个消极的评论

But you will remember the ten negative comments

但你会记得那10个负面评论

and you will hold onto it and

会一直记得

in brain into yourself and repeat that to yourself

And so it's really easy to get into that cycle

when I first started getting hate

I definitely was looped linto that cycle

But you know

now I really think that I don't really pay too much mind

because at the end of the day it's my life

like I'm in controll of my life

If you don't like what I'm doing you d ont have my life like

Ohs you dont like my new trick then don't do it like great

You know that's good for you

你开心就好

Everybody's entitled to their opinion

每个人都有权发表自己的意见

but I'm entited to not listen as well

但我也有权不听

And so it's kind of the sense of

所以这就像是

I can do my thing and you can like it or you don't have to

我可以做我的事你可以喜欢或者你不必喜欢

My goal is to spread positivity

我的目标是传播正能量

If your goal is to spread negativity do that

如果你的目标是传播负面情绪 随你

It's your prerogative but l'm not going to have any part in it

这是你的权力 但我不会参与其中

不难看出，这个只有19岁的小女孩浑身上下都透露出满满的自信，但这些并不是单靠天赋、家境能够决定的。

刚开始进入自由式滑雪训练队的时候，她也曾面临着种种压力与困惑，自己是不是要像男生一样穿衣打扮？是不是只有男性才能在该领域获得成功？是否应为自己的女性气质感到羞耻？这些问题都困扰着她，但最后她“想通了”这一切，决心拥抱自己的女性身份和女性力量，并视之为自己的使命，昂首阔步，继续向前。

“我在滑雪领域最大的目标之一，就是希望能用自己的声音，去鼓励那些还没崭露头角的女孩们。”谷爱凌如是说。她让千千万万个女孩子看到，女性的力量是无穷的，男生能做到的，她们也能。

在谈到对网络舆论的看法时，谷爱凌更是表示，自己一直致力于将最真的一面表现在社交媒体软件上，不宣泄负能量，也不过度美化，可爱又真实。借用谷爱凌的话来说“我可能不会直接说‘今天摔倒了，很痛，不开心’，但我希望可以借助问答的形式来侧面传递我的心情，告诉大家，我也并不完美，我们的生活正是因为有遗憾才变得更有意思。”

谷爱凌让我看到女性力量的强大、积极，正是因为这股力量，才让她带着家人的支持带着自己的自信一往无前，希望所有女孩子都可以像“我们的朋友”一样，真实、积极、勇敢，能够凭借自己的力量将逆境的场变为自己的场。
