“Millennial lefties, bio-war absurdities, creativity frees you, in the style of Jack Kirby” prompt to Stable Diffusion

More starry points in the digital firmament for you…all over the place (as we ontologically are). Spigot open!

Go Millennials, you beautiful cohort!

Moonhaven - just cancelled after one series, apparently - looks like the SF ideas-chiller to replace your Station Eleven fix. Will it appear in the UK this year? Weirdly, the terra-formed “moon haven” looks like a giant nicotine patch.

Here’s one of my neuroscientific heroes, Antonio Damasio, even more eloquent than usual, quoted in Maria Popova’s Marginalian post on his 2021 book, Feeling And Knowing: Making Minds Conscious

The human experience of pain and suffering has been responsible for extraordinary creativity, focused and obsessive, responsible for inventing all kinds of instruments capable of countering the negative feelings that initiated the creative cycle…Ultimately, we are puppets of both pain and pleasure, occasionally made free by our creativity.

Now speaking of puppets… I found the Andrew Tate moment to be a meeting of cultural currents (though it also looks like the necessary arrest of a sex criminal):

He uses “The Matrix” to put a name to popular cynicism about top-down authorities, then channels that into get-rich schemes based on alternative platforms. I’m haunted by x-risk, what can I tell ya (two encounters with Daniel Schmachtenberger in one year, 2022, is enough to settle one’s features into this emoticon 😳). Our ability to weaponise in-group/out-group responses can, if you consider bio-war, end up in a near comical zone of destructiveness:

Instead they may target agriculture or animal husbandry, leading to starvation, heavy economic losses, or dependence on a provider country” orfonline.org/research/reeva…9:11 AM ∙ Jan 6, 20239Likes6Retweets

Somewhat cheerier:

Jason Hickel is my most reliable and robust left-green climate scientist. You should retain this thread - click below

Getting faster as we head for the wall. Or the take-off point. (That ‘first 70 years’ is what keeps me interested in the deep evolutionary tug of our simian/mammalian heritage - those drives, constructive and destructive, pleasurable and painful, which flavour and propel our “rational” lives.)

BTW, you really should support this (I’m a co-initiator of The Alternative Global). Once the planetary boundaries are part of your macro-economy, and the AIs allow humans to escape routine work and express what cannot be repeated, you’ll need to figure out what to do with your idiosyncratic human self, for the rest of your meaningful days. AG is exploring the ways - support strongly (and here’s link to the full video):

We lament the dearly departed Vivienne Westwood, who I once hooked up with Edward Snowden for a liberatory conversation online, and who certainly had her head screwed on about the salience (and subversion) of Scottish Independence:

And finally: it’s Alasdair’s world, we are but sketches in his corners…
