　　Could you knock down the price if I buy two?

　　如果我买2件，价格可以便宜点吗？

　　knock down在本句中表示“降、减”，“降价”我们就可以说knock down the price，或knock the price down。这个用法常见于美式英语。

　　knock down还可以表示“推倒，拆掉，拆毁”，比如建筑物。如果某人被knocked down/over了，则指某人被车撞倒，并且后果比较严重，通常会受伤乃至死亡。类似的有run down，这个只强调撞伤或撞倒。如果是人流量比较大的情况下，被人挤倒、撞倒了，或是被水流冲倒，则可用bowl someone down。

　　He was knocked down by a car and sent to hospital.

　　他被车撞到了，被送进了医院。

　　I will map out the plan in advance.

　　我会提前制定好计划。

　　map out表示“计划，规划，安排”，与此类似的还有plan out，表示“周密地计划，详尽地安排”。

　　in advance表示“提前，事先”，比如“预先通知”，notify someone in advance。与此类似的还有ahead of，比如“提前一天准备”，prepare something a day ahead of time。

　　He usually prepare his presentation a day ahead of time.

　　他通常提前一天准备展示内容。

　　需要注意的是，如果是in advance of，则表示“在……之前，在……的前面”，比如“在会议之前”，in advance of the meeting。

　　Will the fine weather keep up till tomorrow?

　　好天气会持续到明天吗？

　　keep up在本句中表示“保持，持续不变”，比如，“我希望好天气会持续下去”，就可以说：

　　I hope the good weather will keep up.

　　除此以外，keep up还可表示“（使）不低落”，比如：

　　Prices have kept up the whole year.

　　这一年物价都很高。

　　如果你告诉某人要keep it up，则只要“继续努力”。

　　If we pull together, we can get this job done soon.

　　如果我们齐心协力，很快就可以完成这项工作。

　　pull together表示“齐心协力，通力合作”，比如度过难关。我们可以从字面上来理解这个词组，pull表示“拉，扯”，如果将一群人拉到一起，people pull together，也就是团结一致；如果是将一些想法“拉”到一起，pull together facts/ideas，则指“把……串到一起，把……连成一个整体”。

　　在受到很大打击或者刺激的时候，我们会说精神很崩溃，这个时候就需要将自己pull together，也就是让自己“保持镇定，振作起来”。

　　Pull yourself together! It's not the time to give up yet.

　　振作起来！还没到放弃的时候。

　　The new material is highly resistant to steam and water.

　　这种新材料具有很好的耐水蒸汽性和防水性。

　　be resistant to something在本句中表示“有抵抗力的，不受……损害的”，这里主语只能为物。以句中的“防水”为例，我们可以说be resistant to water，也可以直接用water-resistant或waterproof，表示“防水的”。

　　waterproof还可以用作名词，表示“雨衣，防水服”；或者用作动词，表示“对……进行防水处理”，常用于被动语态，如“船只经过防水处理”，“The boat has been waterproofed.”-proof这个后缀表示的就是“抗……”。

　　如果主语为人，someone is resistant to something，则表示这个人对某事很抵制、反对，比如：

　　Our team leader is resistant to change.

　　我们的组长很抗拒变革。
