Sony CDP

We love this unique machine because the laser is built into the drawer and utilizes a puck rather than a clamp. This gives you the benefits of a top loading CD player, while still allowing you to place it inside your audio rack. 

If you're not into SACD the CDP-XA7ES may be your best choice. This is one of the last models before SACD players added unnecessary complexity, slower operating drive mechanisms, and generally cumbersome operation.  

There is a big following for this model and we understand why. Also note it cost $3000 during it's limited 1995 - 1999 production run ($5k in 2020).

Right away you can tell this is a high-end player by looking at the back.  It's rare that Sony included XLR output jacks on any CD player - and this one has them!  It also weighs in at close to 35lbs...

Plus it contained Sony's ES hallmarks of a time long gone - Frame and Beam construction to "suppress vibrations and resonances by the use of varying materials and thicknesses", "Twin R-Core" beefy power transformer, and actual copper used in the internal chassis.

This example is in very nice condition with no noticeable signs of wear.  The original display is super bright, and the drawer operates smoothly and precisely. It was Made In Japan (unlike most other Sony pieces around/after this era), and according to the label on the back it was manufactured in January of 1998
