Spending
Women make up a larger share of this spending than men, spending more than men on the majority of clothing categories in 2021. The clothing category women spent the most money on was sweaters, shirts, tops, and vests, with an average annual expenditure of 143.90 U.S. dollars in 2021. Pants and shorts followed behind, at 95.91 dollars. These were also the top two categories for men, who spent just over 75 dollars on both categories. Men actually spent more on footwear than they did any type of clothing, at almost 120 U.S. dollars in 2021.Favorite brands
Consumers choose the brands they spend their money on for several reasons, the style, the cost, the functionality, to name a few. The brands that the American public generally had the most positive opinion of were Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, and Levi’s. Among young people in America, Nike is extremely popular. In a 2022 survey, it was the most popular brand for both footwear and apparel by a considerable margin. Brands that Gen Z had a particularly higher affinity with than the general population included Urban Outfitters, Supreme, and The North Face.
