据路透社等外媒报道，当地时间10月28日，Facebook首席执行官马克·扎克伯格正式宣布，Facebook将更名为“Meta”。

据了解，Meta为元宇宙单词 MetaVerse 的前缀，用以描述公司在虚拟世界中工作和娱乐的愿景。

在Facebook Connect 年度大会上，扎克伯格表示：“今天，我们被视为一家社交媒体公司，但在我们的基因中，我们是一家构建技术以连接人们的公司，而元宇宙是下一个前沿，就像我们刚起步时的社交网络一样。

"Today we're seen as a social media company," he added, "but in our DNA, we are a company that builds technology to connect people. And the metaverse is the next frontier just like social networking was when we got started."

扎克伯格表示，这个新名字反映了他建立元宇宙的雄心，而不是其社交媒体服务，后者将继续称为脸书（Facebook）。

CEO Mark Zuckerberg, speaking at the company’s live-stream virtual and augmented reality conference, said the new name reflects his ambitions to build the metaverse, rather than his namesake social media service, which will continue to be called Facebook.

Facebook同时还宣布，该公司的股票代码将从12月1日起从“FB”更改为“MVRS”。

据了解，元宇宙 （MetaVerse）一词最早来源于科幻大师尼尔·斯蒂芬森1992年的小说《雪崩》，元宇宙类似于一个虚拟世界，通过戴上耳机和VR眼镜，就能找到连接终端，以虚拟分身的方式进入。

The metaverse is a term coined in the dystopian novel “Snow Crash” three decades ago that is now gaining a buzz in Silicon Valley. It generally refers to the idea of a shared virtual domain that can be accessed by people using different devices.
