population的用法要点

　　１．population不可数名词，但有形容词修饰时，其前可用a；population作主语时，谓语用单数形式；但population若和分数、百分数一起构成短语作主语，则谓语要用复数形式；对人口的数量进行提问时，常用what，而不用how much；表示人口的“多/少”用large/small。 　　２．表示意义较抽象的“人口”时，表单数意义；表示某地区的全体居民时，为集合名词，既可表示单数意义（视为整体）也可表示复数意义（考虑其个体）。 　　３．其前不能用数词修饰，也不能与many, few之类的词连用，但在说明数量多少时可用large, small等修饰；要表示某地拥有多少人口，一般用“have a population of+基数词”这样的结构。 　　４．若要打听某地的人口数，可用 what 或 how large。 　　５．population的基本意思是“人口”,还可指居住在某地的“全体居民”,作主语时谓语动词用单数形式; 在表示人口“多”“少”时,用large和small修饰。特指某一地区或某一国家的“人口”时,则前常加冠词the。 　　６．population用作可数名词,表示一个地区的“特定人群”“动物群”时,其前常加定冠词the。 　　７．population是集合名词,有时可加不定冠词,有时可用复数形式。
