【言谈录】我为什么余生都要生活在冲突中?

你与你具有的那个品质没有区别,那个品质就是你。我就是愤怒、悲伤、孤独、沮丧。而以前,当我把自己分离出来,我就会对我的悲伤采取行动。如果我孤独,我就逃避孤独,或者试图克服它、分析它,或者用各种娱乐和宗教活动来填补。但是,如果现在我孤独,我就不能对它做任何事情了。我孤独——但我的孤独并不是与我不同的东西——我就是孤独。以前我对它采取行动,而现在我不能这么做了,因为我就是孤独。

So what happens when the observer is the observed? When the anger is me, then what takes place? Have you enquired into this, or you just say, 'Yes, I am the observer and the observed'? That is meaningless. But go into it and find out if anger is ever different from you. The tradition, the conditioning, says, 'I am different from my anger', therefore you acted upon it. But when you realize you are anger, what do you do, what happens?

所以,当观察者就是被观察者,那会怎么样?当愤怒就是我,那会怎么样?你有没有探究过这个问题,还是你只是说一句,“是的,我既是观察者也是被观察者”?那毫无意义。去深入探究,然后搞清楚愤怒与你究竟有没有区别。我们的传统和制约都说,“我与我的愤怒是不同的”,所以我要对它采取行动。但是当你意识到你就是愤怒,你会怎么办,又会发生什么?

First, all conflict ceases. All conflict ceases when you realize you are that. I am brown - finished. It's a fact - light brown or dark brown or purple or whatever colour it is. So you eliminate altogether this divisive process which brings conflict in yourself.

首先,所有的冲突都止息了。当你意识到你就是那个东西,所有的冲突就都止息了。我是棕色人种——就此结束。这是事实——浅棕色、深棕色、紫色或者无论什么颜色。于是你彻底消除了在你身上造成冲突的这个分裂性的过程。

Also, why is it that we make an abstraction of a fact? The fact is I am anger, I am jealous, I am lonely. Why do we make that into an idea, an abstraction? Is it easier to make an abstraction than to face the fact? Because I can play with the idea. I say, 'Yes, this is a good idea; that is a bad idea; convince me; you don't convince me'. I can go on like that. When there is no abstraction but only the fact, then I have to deal with it. But then I separate myself and say, 'I am going to do something about it'.

同样,我们为什么要从事实中得出抽象的结论?事实是我愤怒,我嫉妒,我孤独。我们为什么把它变成一个概念、一种抽象的观念?得出抽象的概念是不是比面对事实更容易?因为那样我就可以玩弄概念了。我说,“是的,这个想法不错,那个想法很烂;说服我,你不要说服我。”我可以继续这样下去。当没有了抽象的概念而只剩下事实,我就必须去处理它了。但是此时我把自己分离了出来,然后说,“我要对它做点儿什么。”

When one realizes there is no separation - you are that, you are 'what is', you are a Hindu, a Muslim, a Christian; you are a business man, you are ugly, you are brutal; you are all that - then you have eliminated altogether the sense of division in youself and therefore no conflict. Do you know what the brain is like when there is no conflict? When the brain is in perpetual conflict, as most people's brains are, what happens to that brain? It's wounded, hurt.

当你意识到分离并不存在——你就是那样,你就是“现在如何”,你是一个印度教徒、一个穆斯林、一个基督教徒,你是一个商人,你丑陋,你残忍;你就是那一切——此时你就彻底消除了自己身上的所有分裂感,因此冲突终结了。你知道没有冲突的时候大脑什么样吗?当大脑处于永无止境的冲突中,就像大多数人的大脑那样,它又会怎样?它会受伤,它受到了伤害。

Probably you have lived so long with conflict, pain, sorrow and fear, and you've said, 'It's part of my life. I'll accept it', and you've gone on that way. You've never enquired what conflict does to the brain, the psyche of a human being. If one is constantly beaten, bombarded with conflict, do you know what happens to the brain? It shrinks. It becomes very small, limited, ugly. That's what is happening to all of us.

也许你已经跟冲突、痛苦、悲伤和恐惧生活得太久了,于是你说,“它就是我的一部分,我会接受它”,而你一直就是这样做的。你从来没有探究冲突对大脑、对心灵、对一个人都做了些什么。如果一个人长期被冲突袭扰、轰炸,你知道大脑会怎么样吗?它就萎缩了。它变得十分狭小、局限、丑陋。而这就是发生在我们所有人身上的事。

So the fairly intelligent man asks, 'Why should I live in conflict for the rest of my life?' He begins to enquire what is conflict. Conflict must exist where there is division - inside as well as outside. And this division deeply, fundamentally is between the 'me', the observer, and the thing observed. Two separate activities going on - which is not true, because you are anger, you are violence. If you come to that point and realize that the observer is the observed, there is activity that is totally different.

所以一个相当智慧的人会问,“我为什么余生都要生活在冲突中?”于是他开始探索冲突是什么。有分裂的地方,冲突就必然会存在——内外都是如此。这种分裂从根本上讲就存在于“我”、观察者和被观察之物之间。有两个分开的活动各自在进行——这不是事实,因为你就是愤怒,你就是暴力。如果你理解了这一点,并且认识到了观察者就是被观察者,那么就会有完全不同的行动。
