than的词性和用法(后接动词原形)

我将前面两位老师的分析综合一下，提出我的理解，不知妥否，向各位请教！

理解一：

按波波老师的思路来理解：此理解的前提是不把 more than 看作是固定搭配（当然也不把do more than do sth 固定搭配），只是把simply make life more convenient看是与 for people 相并列的一个成分。假若把句中的 for people 改一下，变成 to serve people，同时把 than 分句的省略部分补充一下：

The Internet has done much more for people than simply make life more convenient.

=The Internet has done much more for people than (it has done) simply make life more convenient.

=The Internet has done much more to serve people than (it has done) simply (to) make life more convenient.

句意为：互联网给人们的生活带来了很大的帮助，而不只是使生活变得便捷。

我觉得，按以上思路理解与 for people 这个短语有很大关系，如果没有它（没有这种对比），好像还真还不能这样理解。

理解二：

按好题老师的思路来理解：将 more than 视为固定搭配，当然也把do more than do sth 固定搭配，该结构的 than 后面的动词确实通常用原形，但这并不绝对，也有用其他动词形式的。比如H. W. Fowler 的 A Dictionary of ENGLISH USAGE 就有这样一个用 doing 的例句（见该书p274，-ing词条）：

But America is doing more than furnishing us with loans.
