　　which或者that定语从句一定修饰前面的名词吗?

　　我们就来说一下which或者that定语从句到底修饰谁吧!

　　正常情况下，我们在前面分析的很多期句子当中，定语从句就是往前修饰名词的。不再多举例了。但是有时见到这样的句子：

　　One such adaptation is the closer proximity of the terrestrial snake's heart to its head, which helps to ensure circulation to the brain, regardless of the snake's orientation in space.

　　第一反应是which从句修饰head。但是，对吗?

　　句意理解：

　　逗号前：这种适应性的一个表现，就是陆地蛇的心脏距离头很近。

　　逗号后：能帮助保证头部的循环，不管蛇的空间方位。

　　谁能帮助保证?是head吗?很明显不是。而是the closer proximity of the terrestrial snake's heart to its head。那which怎么能修饰到那么远的地方呢?

　　注意which从句的前面，其实不止一个名词哦。前面有一些介词短语结构，如of…to…等，它们都在修饰the closer proximity，只不过它们很短，挤在了which从句的前面，而我们不可能把which从句放在of…, to…的前面的。

　　所以，当短小的修饰语(如介词短语，doing结构，done结构，adj.结构等)跟较长的从句修饰语争抢位置时，大的要让着小的。这时候，which/that从句就不一定必须指最近的名词，而应该看句意，看它意思上说的是哪个名词就行啦。

　　依葫芦画瓢，我们再来看一个句子吧：

　　But such an argument only tends to obscure the consciousness of identity, strength, and sense of history that already existed in the African American community.

　　考虑一下，that从句说的是history, sense, strength, identity, 还是consciousness呢?

　　很明显，of identity, strength, and sense of history是修饰consciousness的，句意上说已经存在于黑人社会里的应该说的核心词是consciousness。

　　再来一个：

　　Furthermore, if wages are not allowed to rise, the value of the country's currency will appreciate, which (from the developed countries' point of view) is the equivalent of increased wages in the developing country.

　　which从句前面根本没有挨着名词诶。。。那肿么办?

　　记住一句话：

　　定语从句，不管是限定非限定，不管是that还是which，都试图去修饰一个名词，这个名词跟它在一起，那最好，不在一起，就找一找，总能找到的。找不到就错了。

　　这个当然也一样啊，which前面没挨着名词，但总是有名词的对不对?再往前不就找到currency了嘛。
