help 當動詞用時，是指幫助、幫忙的意思。其後面可以接to，但通常也可省略。

例：She helped her (to) sit up in bed so she could hold her baby. 她扶她在床上坐起來，這樣她就可以抱着寶寶了。

例：The drought has helped (to) make this a disastrous year for Somalia. 亁旱使索馬利亞今年禍不單行。

從上面例子你會發現，help 後面是不接 Ving的，也就是不接動名詞，要特別注意喔。

至於help後面需不需要有受詞，可以有，也可以沒有。

例： Let me help you. 讓我幫你

例： Can I help? 我可以幫忙嗎？

help後面還可以接with，用來表示要幫助的那件事。

help yourself 是指「請自便」的意思。

例： ”Might I have some more food?” “Please, help yourself!” 「我能再吃些食物嗎？」「請自便！」

例： Would you please help with my suitcase? 你能幫我提手提箱嗎？

help 本身也可以當名詞使用喔，當成名詞時，中文意思為「幫助」的意思。

例： We need some help. 我們需要一些幫助。

例： Thank you for your help. 謝謝你的幫忙。

當你想請求幫助時，你可以搭配以下動詞。

need some/ ask for / call for / + help 請求幫忙 / 呼救 / 尋求幫忙 give / provide + help：給予幫忙

例： We can give him some help. 我們可以給他些幫助。

can’t help but是指控制不住、忍不住的意思。can’t help but 加原型動詞，或是你也可以改成 can’t help +動名詞Ving 的形式。

例： I can’t help but cry when I see this movie. 當看我這部電影時，我忍不住哭了。 = I can’t help crying when I see this movie.

例： He can’t help but dance when he hears that song! 當他聽到那首歌時，他忍不住跳舞！ = He can’t help dancing when he hears that song!
