HydroBASINS代表了一系列矢量多边形图层,在全球范围内描述了子流域的边界。该产品的目标是在全球范围内无缝覆盖不同尺度(从几十平方公里到几百万平方公里)的大小一致、分层嵌套的子流域,并由一个编码方案支持,以便对流域拓扑结构进行分析,如上下游连接。HydroBASINS是从网格化的HydroSHEDS核心层中提取的,分辨率为15弧秒。任何子流域划分的一个重要特征是子流域的细分,即决定何时和如何将一个较大的流域细分为多个支流流域。在最高级别的子流域划分中,HydroBASINS将一个流域划分为两个子流域,即在两个河流分支相遇的地方,每个分支的上游面积至少为100平方公里。子流域划分的第二个关键特征是子流域的分组或编码方式,以允许在不同尺度上创建嵌套的子流域,或在子流域网络中从上游到下游进行导航。为了支持这些功能和拓扑概念,"Pfafstetter "编码系统已经在HydroBASINS产品中实施,在全球范围内提供12个分层嵌套的子流域细分。

在最高级别的子流域细分中,HydroBASINS包含了100万个独立的子流域多边形,平均面积为130.6平方公里,代表了全球陆地面积的1.35亿平方公里(不包括南极洲)。HydroBASINS只包括有限的(主要是几何)属性信息,如子流域面积、与上游源头和海洋出口的距离,以及Pfafstetter编码。

请注意,总体的HydroATLAS数据库完全包含了HydroBASINS的所有子流域多边形,这些多边形在HydroATLAS中还被增强了大量的水文环境特征。

HydroSHEDS 是一种地图产品,它以一致的格式为区域和全球范围的应用程序提供水文信息。它提供了一套不同尺度的地理参考数据集(矢量和栅格),包括河网、流域边界、排水方向和流量累积。HydroSHEDS 基于 2000 年美国宇航局航天飞机雷达地形任务 (SRTM) 获得的高程数据。

该数据集基于 15 角秒(赤道处约 500 m)分辨率的栅格数据提供嵌套的分层分水岭多边形。流域范围从 1 级(粗略)到 12 级(详细),使用 Pfastetter 代码。

请注意,北纬 60 度以上地区的 HydroSHEDS 数据质量明显较低,因为没有可用的基础 SRTM 高程数据,因此分辨率较低的 DEM 是(美国地质调查局提供的 HYDRO1k)。
