The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark by Shakespeare
The action of the play is set in and around the Danish royal palace at Elsinore. POLONIUS The Lord Chamberlain of Claudius’s court; father to Laertes and Ophelia. OPHELIA Daughter of Polonius. Loves Hamlet. LAERTES Polonius’s son and Ophelia’s brother. REYNALDO Polonius’s servant, who is sent to France by Polonius to check up on and spy on Laertes. HORATIO Hamlet’s trusted friend, who studied with the prince at the university in Wittenberg. FORTINBRAS The Prince of Norway, whose father the king (also named Fortinbras) was killed by Hamlet’s father (also named Hamlet). OSRIC, ROSENCRANTZ and GUILDENSTERN Courtiers. VOLTIMAND and CORNELIUS Ambassadors to Norway. MARCELLUS and BERNARDO The officers of the Watch. FRANCISCO A soldier. TWO CLOWNS Gravediggers.
