　1.therefore可引出一个独立句,但不能连接两个句子,因此当therefore前没有and等连词时,前面须用分号。

　2.therefore的意思是“因此,为此,所以”,是副词,引导结果、结局或结论,不能误作连词用。

3.连接副词therefore用于句首时后面无需逗号,若位于句中前面可加也可不加逗号。

　4.therefore也可用于推理,作“故…,由此得出”解。

二、认为therefore可用作连词的语法或用法书　　

1.《牛津英语语法》在第327节认为：besides，however，nevertheless，otherwise，so，therefore，still，yet，though 这些副词 / 连词可以连接两个从句或两个句子。此时它们被认为是“准连词”。除了nevertheless和therefore二者为连词外，它们也可有其他用法，有时用做其他词类。它们在句中的位置取决于它们的用法。　　

《牛津英语语法》在第327节的第E条认为：therefore (连词）在正式英语中可用来代替so。它可位于一个从句之前、该从句的第一个词或第一个短语之后、或该从句的主要动词之前。　　

2. 柯林斯《英语语法系列――连词》在第2.75节有如下描述：

该书在第320节提到“表示因果关系的连词”时，又指出：therefore也可表示“因此”，“所以”，但比较文气一点，多放在分句或句子前面。　　

三、认为therefore是连接副词的语法或用法书　　

《薄冰高级英语语法》第13.8节认为：英语里有些连接副词的性质与等立连词相似。常用的连接副词有besides, hence,however, meanwhile, moreover, still, then, therefore, thus等。　　

该书在第14.11节认为：有一些连接句子的副词已变为连词，如then, therefore, hence, nevertheless等。　　

四、本人的观点与分析　　

therefore本来是副词，但由于它具有连词（并列连词）的特点，所以有的语法书把它归为连词类，但有些比较“谨慎”的语法学家，给它取了个概括性比较高的名字，叫“连接副词”（即具有连词功能的副词）。这就好比有人把“裤子”的两个裤腿做得很宽大，像“裙子”一样，结果导致它看起来既像裤子（所以有人仍叫它“裤子”），又像裙子（所以也有人叫它“裙子”），但有些比较“谨慎”的人，给它取了个概括性比较高的名字，叫“裙裤”（即看起来像裙子的裤子）。

但不管它叫什么，那只是叫法问题，是个名称问题。我们重要是要知道它的用法有何特点。从用法上看，therefore仍是副词，只是在意义有些像连词。正因为是副词，所以它通常不宜像并列连词那样直接连接两个句子。therefore在句中通常的位置有几种：　　

一是用于句中（并列连词一般不这样用）。如：　　

Progress so far has been very good. We are, therefore, confident that the work will be completed on time. 目前为止进展十分顺利，所以我们相信工作能够按时完成。（摘自朗文词典）　　

He previously worked in the Ministry of Finance. He comes, therefore, with a great deal of experience and expertise. 他以前在财政部工作过。因此他来的时候已有丰富经验和专门知识。（摘自柯林斯语法）

　　 二是用于句首。如：　　

Therefore, we must advocate the forming of workshop committees. 因此我们倡导组织车间委员会。（摘自张道真语法）　　

下面这个句子摘自《牛津英语语法》，它表明therefore可以放在句中的不同位置：　　

The Finnish delegate has not yet arrived. We are therefore postponing / We have therefore decided to postpone / Therefore we are postponing the meeting. 芬兰代表还没有到达。我们因此要把会议推迟 / 因此我们已决定把会议推迟 / 因此我们要把会议推迟。 　　

三是用于连接两个句子，此时与并列连词的用法极为相似。如：　　

It rained; therefore the game was cancelled. 天下雨了，为此球赛取消了。（摘自张道真语法）　　

There seemed no chance of coming to an agreement; therefore it was decided to break off negotiations. 似乎已没有达成协议的可能，因此决定中止谈判。（摘自薄冰语法）　　

注意therefore前面用的是分号，通常不宜用逗号，否则就构成了所谓的逗号句。尽管在现代英语中“逗号句”已慢慢为人们所接受，但还是有不少严谨的语法学家对此持反对态度（有关“逗号句”的说明，见本站以下文章：　

请看下面两句，摘自《牛津英语语法》（注意句中的标点）：　　

He took my shoes, so I couldn’t leave the house. 他把鞋拿走了，我出不了门。　　

=He took my shoes; therefore I wasn’t able to leave. 他把我的鞋拿走了，所以我不能够出门。　　

最后还说明一点，当therefore连接两个句子时，它还常可以与并列连词and连用，而其他的两个并列连词是不可以连在一起使用的。如：
