美国时间9月27日，《花花公子》创办人休·海夫纳与世长辞，享年91岁。《花花公子》官网在公布这一消息的同时，附上了海夫纳的照片和他的名言：“生命太短暂，不要活在别人的梦想之中。”

海夫纳于1953年创刊的《花花公子》杂志，从一本男性杂志起家，最开始以女星的赤裸照片为卖点吸引人，后来其内容逐渐涉猎社会运动及严肃文学。该杂志在60年代曾引领美国的性解放运动，也曾多次刊登美国重要小说家及社会运动人士的文章及访谈。

海夫纳的一生，也奉行了《花花公子》杂志的信仰：自由与解放。海夫纳结过3次婚，有4个子女。现任的妻子是2012年嫁给他的，当时他已经86岁了，而这位妻子比她小60岁。他同时与多名女性交往，曾称，“我从来没有和24岁以上的女性约会过”。

海夫纳还曾有过一座神秘的“花花公子公馆”，据传这幢豪宅曾经举办过很多美国最热闹的派对，也参与了无数电影电视节目拍摄，其中包括举行各种各样露骨的性感派对。

按照海夫纳生前的愿望，他将埋葬在梦露的身旁。1992年时他就花费5万美元价格早早买下了紧邻梦露墓碑旁的位置，他说这让他感到浪漫。

1953年，27岁的海夫纳花500美元买下了美国性感女神玛丽莲·梦露的半裸照版权。该年12月发行的《花花公子》创刊号上，那个“内有梦露裸照”的标题一举带出5万多本的销量。现在，在收藏品市场上，这本创刊号的价格在1万美元以上。
