这些“money”的英语俚语，你懂多少？

现实教导我们：钱不是万能的，可没钱也是万万不能的！

同样的，学好英语让自己更“值钱”也是很重要的。

今天，大家就跟随AAE（美国英文学院，American Academy of English,简称AAE）的脚步一起来学习几个关于“钱”的英语俚语！

1. funny money ≠ 有趣的钱

Funny是搞笑的、有趣的意思，可能有些人看到funny money理解为“有趣的钱”，但“有趣的钱”究竟是什么呢？可见这样理解并不恰当。

其实，funny还有另一个意思：不诚实的、非法的，所以funny money表示“伪钞、假钞、来路不明的钱”，常用于美国和加拿大口语中。

例句：

Be cautious; some funny money is being used in this community.

小心！有些伪钞在这社区使用。

2. for my money绝不是“为了我的钱”！

你可能想不到，for my money是in my opinion（依我看、我觉得）的意思。

例句：

For my money, it's not worth the trouble.

在我看来，不值得这样费力。

3. raise money≠涨钱

raise 在表示增长的时候，后面要接具体的事物。

比如:

涨价=raise the price

涨工资=raise the salary

涨票价=raise the fare

raise除了增加外，还有“收集、筹集”的意思，所以raise money表示“筹款”。所以，国外筹钱的活动统称为“fund raiser”。

例句：

Let's raise money for the orphans.

我们来为孤儿筹款吧

We've been raising money for the victims of the earthquake.

我们必须为地震灾区的受害者们筹集善款。

4. on the money 不是“在钱财上”

On the money表示的是“正确的、正好的”意思。

例句：

Every criticism she made was right on the money.

她提出的每个批评都非常的正确。

5. in the money 不是“在钱里”！

In the money直译成“在钱里”不够准确，但想象一下，被钱包围的感觉，所以这个短语表示“很富有”的意思。

例句：

If you are one of the lucky callers chosen to play, you could be in the money.

如果你有幸成为其中一个被选中参加表演的来电者，就可能会赚大钱。

其实，in the money也可以表示“在比赛或竞赛中处于优胜地位”的意思。

例句：

I knew when Jane came around the final turn that she was in the money.

当Jane进入到了最后一轮，我就知道她赢定了。

6. pocket money≠ 口袋里的钱

其实pocket money表示的是“数目很小的钱、零用钱”。（用于购买小数目、个人物品的钱）

例句：

He saved up his pocket money in order to buy a gift.

他把零用钱积聚起来，想买件礼物。

7. dear money是“亲爱的钱”？

Dear money, give me happiness.

这个时候dear money可以翻译成亲爱的钱（当然这是一句开玩笑的话）。

但dear除了亲爱的，还表示“高价的”（比市场价格高的）。

所以dear money可理解为：高额利息，高利贷。

例句：

Even allowing for inflation, that is dear money.

即使考虑上通货膨胀，这还是高利贷。

8.(to) have money to burn 不是“烧钱”？

如果被钱淹没还不算有钱，那么把钱烧掉的人，就是钱多了用不完的节奏啊！

所以money to burn 表示“有花不完的钱”（常常是指不必要地挥霍）。

例句：

I think the expensive car is probably not for me unless I have the money to burn.

我想这款昂贵的车不适合我，除非我钱多得用不完。

＝不需要付出太多努力而得到的钱（也许是非法获得的）。

例句：

The task was simple and got him easy money.

此外，easy money=经济术语：低息货币

例句：

The Economist was calling it “the end of the era of easy money”.

I'd bet money on it. I'd bet money that Jane will get that job.

我很确信，Jane会得到那份工作，我敢打赌。

l come into (some) money

= 得到意外之财（通常是因为继承遗产）

例句：

She came into a lot of money when she turned twenty.

她二十岁的时候，得到了一大笔意外之财。

l spend money like water

= 花钱大手大脚、挥金如土

例句：

They both spend money like water.

他们两人都挥金如土。
