例如：

appetite

n.欲望；食欲（physical desire especially for food）

She had four teenaged boys,each with the appetite of a bear！（她有四个十来岁的儿子，每个孩子的胃口都大如熊。）

exquisite

adj.绝妙的，完美无缺的（of great excellence；brought to a high state of perfection）

What is considered everyday to the local residents，is exquisite to the tourists who come from all over the world to see the fields of poppise.（这在当地人看起来是很平常的东西，对于从世界各地远道而来欣赏罂粟田野的游客来说却是妙不可言。）

granite

n.花岗岩

gran(=grain粮食；颗粒；[作物] 谷物；纹理)

形容词、动词、名词后缀ish意为：like，retating to，make。

一、形容词后缀

（1）加在名词后，表示如...的；似...的；有...的性质的。

amateurish

adj.外行的，业余的；不熟练的（inexpert，imperfect）

The tourist made a rather amateurish attempt to negotiate with the shopkeeper.（游客很外行地与店主讨价还价。）

bookish

adj.书的；学究的；爱好书籍的（of books and studies）

（2）加在形容词之后面，表示含有某种程度的、略...的、稍...的

coldish 略寒的，稍冷的；

greenish 略带绿色的；

表示做...、致使...、造成...、成为...

flourish

v.茂盛；繁荣 （极度地夸耀）（grow in a healthy manner;prosper）

The weed,unintentionally brought to America by trade ships,has been flourishing in the Florida Everglades,killing off native grasses.（被贸易船只偶然带到美国的杂草取代了佛罗里达沼泽当地的牧草，在那里长势茂盛。）

garnish

v.为增加色香味而添加酸菜；装饰（decorate food for the table）

Garnish the tray with broccoli or cauliflower.（用花椰菜或球花甘来装饰餐盘。）

后缀-ion含义、词源和例词

-ion来源于拉丁语，只能加缀在拉丁动词词干或拉丁借词上，构成相应的名词，其意思相当于the act or process of ～,the result of ～ing，the condition of being ～ed，a thing that ～s等，即表示某一动作过程、结果与状态，以及与该行为有关的事物。由于拉丁构词规律的影响，-ion有-ation，-ition，-ution等异体，但它们的用法与意义与-ion并无区别。

attraction 【attract v.吸引】

n.吸引；吸引力

The attraction of the bright headlight made the deer stop in the road.（明亮的汽车前灯光吸引得那只鹿停在公路中间。）

Sports have great attraction for most boys. （运动对多数男孩子有很大的吸引力。）

calculation【calculate vt.计算；预测；认为；打算】

n.计算；计算结果

Our first calculation was wrong,but the second was correct.（我们第一次得数是错误的，第二次是对的。）

collection 【collect vt.收集；募捐】

n.收集物，收藏品

Our library has a large collection of books.（我们的图书馆藏书量很大。）

n.迷恋，强烈爱好
