Strategic Development & Delivery

The Strategic Development & Delivery team works in partnership with stakeholders across the institution, combining our specialist expertise, sector knowledge, and institutional awareness to support the delivery of our vision to 2028 and beyond. This is a new Directorate for UEL, and comprises four main portfolios;

Insights & Decision Support, Strategy & Performance, Portfolio & Benefits, and Change & Improvement. These four service areas will facilitate effective decision-making, improve our staff and student experience, and deliver lasting positive change.

The Role:

As Director of Change and Improvement, you will recruit and lead a team of highly skilled change and process specialists, acting as an influential, insightful, and unifying force to strengthen UEL's capacity and capability to lead and implement the strategic change initiatives and process improvements required to deliver the vision to 2028 & beyond.Job Description

Key Activities:To embed the organisation's change management and process improvement strategy and approach.To build change capability across the institution through the design of targeted interventions, coaching, and the provision of best practice toolkits and training.To lead the development of a continuous improvement culture and ensure there are appropriate structures in place to support this.To identify and oversee a programme of process improvement projects.To lead and mobilise change steering groups aligned to strategic priority gaps.

Key Accountabilities:Develop the institution-wide change management and process improvement strategy and approach.Build organisational capability in planning, leading, managing, and evaluating change which will enable the delivery of the Vision to 2028.Embed a change and continuous improvement culture at the University, monitoring the effectiveness of efforts and applying lessons learned.

Key Deliverables:Lead the development and establishment of a high-performing Change Management and Process Improvement function, building critical expertise that can be deployed where needed.Act as an agent of change, playing a leading role in establishing a change culture at the University, and ensuring there are appropriate structures to support this effectively.Work with the senior leadership of the university to foster a culture of sustainable change by identifying improvement opportunities in processes and in services to maximise efficiency, reduce waste and add value to deliver an improved experience to our students.Enable the best change decisions to be made at the most appropriate level and ensure strategic and operational risks and issues are identified, prioritised, assessed, and mitigated.Put in place methods to monitor progress, report on change effectiveness, analyse and respond to performance metrics.Oversee lessons learned/after action reviews relating to change effectiveness, and celebrate success.Act as an ambassador for change management, regularly staying up to date with best practices and acting as an advocate for our change journey internally and externally.

Key Relationships:Senior leadership across the institution - including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Provost, Executive Deans, and the SD&D Directors.The Successful Applicant

Essential Criteria:Leading the management of change via large-scale transformational change programmes.The principles and concepts that underpin change management and the ability to advise with authority senior stakeholders on 'good practice approaches' to business change.Stakeholder management on complex/sensitive programmes and at senior executive levels.Engaging with senior stakeholders to surface and resolve sensitive issues related to the change and to overcome significant resistance to change.Credibility and impact with senior leaders; adept at using influence and persuasion to gain buy-in to enable change to happen through others.Strategic problem solver with a track record of defining and structuring complex problems, evaluating new concepts and ideas, and identifying sound recommendations and solutions in a matrix and large-scale organisation.Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to develop, maintain and enhance relationships with individuals at all levels of the organisation.The ability to make things happen in an environment of ambiguity, complexity, and multiple stakeholders.Strong people and stakeholder management, using a high degree of emotional intelligence to foster positive relationships and build a high-performing teamA passion for change and delivering value to customers
