Scaffolding gives learners help and support as they receive and produce new language or content. Teacher: Look at this… [Ss:… ] What can you see? [Ss:… ] A dog? Good. What else? Is this a cat? [Ss:… ] No, that’s right. It’s a parrot [Ss:… ] A store? Yes… What kind of store is it? [Ss:… ] A pet store —Very good… What can I buy at the pet store? [Ss:… ] Can I buy food here? [Ss:… ] Yes, I can only buy food for animals. Can I buy a lizard? Yes. Can I buy a tiger? [Ss:… ] That’s right. I can’t buy a tiger at the pet store. [Ss:… ] Where can you see a tiger? Yes, a zoo. Can you see a zoo in the picture? [Ss:… ] That’s right, here’s the zoo. [Ss:… ] And what can you see in the zoo? [Ss:… ] What is your favorite animal? Why? I want you to draw a picture of your living room. Using your crayons. Draw your living room on the paper. Where is the couch? Do you have a TV in the living room? Where is it? Do you watch TV with your parents here? Where is the tea table? Think and draw.
