2.but：但是。用来引出相反意见或不同情况，常用于口语中。连接两个并列的成分或句子，语气较强，在意义上构成明显的对比。与前分句可用（可不用）逗号，与后分句不用逗号。 eg：Life is limited but there is no limit to learning.

3.on the contrary：相反。可连接同向句子或反义句子。当连接同向句子时，表示递进，相当于rather, instead；eg：That the artist chose to remain in his hometown does not mean that he remained provincial; on the contrary, he kept abreast of the international artistic movements of his day.当连接反义句子时，表示转折，即与先前的看法相反；eg：When I first met him, I thought he was a modest and gentle person. On the contrary, he is arrogant and ruthless.

4.even though：尽管；虽然。引导让步状语从句，用来引出一个真实、但出乎意料的情况，可用于句首或带有动词的从句开头。eg：Even though everyone played well, we lost the game.=We lost the game, even though everyone played well.
