Information for Rutgers Students

Now that the strike is over, should I return to my classes?

Yes. Your ability to make progress toward earning your degree is our highest priority. Please review Canvas or other learning management system or consult with your instructor for information related to your specific classes.

Will the schedules for registration for fall classes, reading days, and final exams be changed?

No. Fall 2023 registration and other universitywide programming will proceed as scheduled, as reflected in the academic calendar followed by your school.  There will be no change to reading days and schedule of final exams.

What should I do to complete course assignments that were interrupted during the strike?

To avoid falling behind in coursework, students should review Canvas or other learning management system or consult with their instructor for information about how they intend to handle assignments.

How will my course grades be affected by the strike?

Your ability to complete your coursework remains the university’s highest priority. Please consult with your instructor or school for information about how they intend to handle assignment grading and final course grades.

Will course work missed because of the strike affect my course grades and academic progress? The university will encourage instructors to be flexible and to support our students on their path to academic success. Instructors will communicate with students to provide clarity on course expectations and modifications to course plans and assignments and will provide opportunities to make up any missed work. Students are encouraged to reach out to the office of their school dean for help with advising and registration issues.

Will my progress toward graduation be affected by the strike?  Our students’ ability to complete their coursework and earn their degrees is the university’s highest priority. Every effort will be made to ensure that the strike does not affect our students’ progress toward graduation.

Will the university continue to hold convocations and commencement ceremonies? Yes. Students have worked hard to earn their degrees and the university fully intends to recognize and celebrate their accomplishments. Commencement and convocation ceremonies will continue to be held on all Rutgers campuses.

Information for Rutgers Faculty and Staff

Now that agreements have been reached, are Rutgers employees who participated in the strike expected to return to work?

Yes, it is the university’s expectation that all faculty and staff report to work and fulfill their job duties and responsibilities.

Can employees use paid time off for the time they did not report to work during the strike?

All use of paid time off must, as is normal policy, require prior approval from your supervisor. If employees use sick time during an unlawful strike, they may be required to provide appropriate documentation.

How can I communicate with my students about the status of my classes?

Students have been directed to check Canvas or other course management systems for updates about the status of their classes. Faculty members should provide that information via those sites.
