FNIRSI 1014D Oscilloscope

FNIRSI had already gave us several portable oscilloscopes, having a tablet one, the 1013D already with several very interesting features for a portable oscilloscope, like 100Mhz bandwith, 2-Channels and 1GSa/s.

For FNIRSI the next logical step should be the launch of a bench oscilloscope, and that finally happened with the FNIRSI 1014D.

Make no mistake, I don’t know if intentionally or not, but the main segment for this device is electronics students, hobbyists and technicians with basic needs in an oscilloscope. If you need more advanced features, you should think of an alternative.

Now if you’re just getting started in electronics, let me tell you that this device is a delight to work with, due to its simplicity and ease of use. In just a few minutes you master the device and manage to work without major problems.

As I told you before, the available functions are basic, but you still have a functions generator, weak one is true, but it is present and avoids you from spending additional money to have this functionality. Even the function generator operation is very simple, but again limited as the maximum bandwidth is 10Mhz for a sine wave and you have a fixed amplitude of 5V.

Besides the function generator you still have the FFT mode, if you don’t know what it is, it allows you to analyze the signal, but instead of showing voltage vs time, it shows frequency vs time. This type of analysis is used in spectrum analyzers for the analysis of radio signals, sound, etc.

Another possibility is the XY mode which allows you, in a visual way, to see the interaction of the X and Y values in a tridimensional plane where figures are created according to the values of each of the signals, they can be animated and so on.

The display and readability of values is another plus, the measurement values on the right side of the display are configurable and are large enough to allow easy and quick reading. The quality of the screen, combined with the contrast of the chosen colors, allow for a super sharp and easy-to-read image.

Let me get back to this point because it is really, at least for me, one of the strongest points of this oscilloscope; I’m talking about ease of use. It’s a fantastic thing. Of course, it can’t be too complicated because the functions are simpler and you don’t have them all, but on the other hand, the ones you do have are very easy to use. An example of this is the measurement cursors that aided by the direction keys allow us to easily move the cursors around the screen.

In my opinion, it’s a fantastic device. Professionals are very critical in relation to their weaknesses, but I have to defend that not everyone needs a top of the range oscilloscope and for the vast majority of amateurs, this device is more than enough, not requiring a greater investment than the 143€, for the last time I saw on Aliexpress.

One alert, prices on Aliexpress are very volatile, by the time you read this article it can be more expensive or cheaper. This vary a lot depending on the seller and the warehouse from which they will be delivered. As an example, my unit came from a warehouse in Spain and had a cost of €155, higher than the amount I mentioned earlier.

Another fantastic unit for this entry-level line is the Owon SDS1102 or the Owon SDS1104 (see my review) for a 4-Channel oscilloscope, which despite having a slightly higher value, already has functions that do not exist in this one. , take a look at the review I did.

But let me say again, if you don’t need math functions or many features that you’ll never use in your life because you basically mess with arduinos, raspberries pi, esp32 or others and little else, don’t spend more money, in my opinion this will be enough.
